“Phillips Heralds a Hopeful Future”, Patriots Welcome New PNP President

The Patriots have extended congratulations and offered unwavering support to the new President of the People’s National Party, Dr. Peter Phillips, who became the fifth leader of the PNP last Sunday by taking the oath of office.

In welcoming Dr Phillips as the new PNP leader, the Patriots’ Chairman, Javette Nixon said, the membership of the Patriots is unanimous in the view that Dr. Peter Phillips heralds a hopeful future for the Nation and is the best prepared comrade to lead the Party and country at this time.

“The Patriots will be relentless in its support of the new president and his agenda of inclusion of new blood to grow the Party,” Nixon remarked.  We will double our efforts to recruit new members to create a new brigade of young professionals to advance the objectives of building a new Jamaica, Nixon added.

Paying tribute to the former PNP President, Portia Simpson-Miller, the Patriots’ General Secretary, Omar Newell described her as, “the mother of Jamaica’s economic modernity and the Nation’s most morally dignified leader to date”.

According to Newell, “Her place in history is secured having served as the first female President of the PNP and Prime Minister of Jamaica, she may even become the Parliament’s first ten star general.

“Portia Simpson-Miller is an example of the kind of outcomes the People’s National Party wants for all of Jamaica – Progress!  She has a fascinating journey, moving from Wood Hall in St. Catherine to occupying a permanent space in the hearts of all Jamaicans, who now appreciate her service to Party and Country
”, an emotional Newell said.

The leadership of the Patriots is of the view that the Party’s new President has already taken action to signal his focus on a new approach in bringing the Party together, and his call for expansion of the recruitment effort is most appropriate at this time.

Newell drew attention to what he regards as emerging signs of panic among senior members of the JLP to highlight the successful transition’s effect, saying:

While Dr. Phillips was at the Arena articulating a vision for an inclusive PNP and a Jamaica that works for all Jamaicans, he was also the headline topic at a JLP meeting inside Mr. Holness’ constituency.  The future is bright for the PNP and therefore for our country”.
